From the point of our birth till our death, we are running a race. A race which is unpredictable, full of surprises, full of challenges , full of good moments and bad moments.

From a fetus in the mother’s womb to the corpse in the coffin, the journey is in a sequence- infant, kid, adolescence, adult and old age. When we are small, we have no work except receiving the affection from our parents. We grow up, go to school and then it’s a different journey from nursery till our 12th. After this is our career making time where we focus on our future and choose courses accordingly. We find a job, get in there, earn money, fulfill our desires then we look for life partner and the role of family planning takes place. Finally with everything in place or maybe a little struggle here and there, we grow old and eventually leave this world. It’s a race to get along from one position to another with our best performances and as less mistakes as possible. But with all the efforts we put in, with all our endeavors and with the achievements we get in return, we leave the world just how we had entered- alone and naked!

Three years back when I was in the stage of deciding the course that would help me get a settled career, the question struck me. What is life about? Why are we running, changing our designations when ultimately we get nothing?

Death governs it all at the end!

Then is life worth living for?? Of course we reward ourselves with several good things in life and every action of ours brings in results but everything vanishes in the end.

So what are the elements that our life consists of? Unless we find the true meaning and purpose to life, then it’s an aimless run ending in death.

What gives that meaning and purpose to our otherwise mundane lives?

I stumbled upon this poetic passage which gave me some hope and warning as well…

Remember your Creator
    in the days of your youth,
before the days of trouble come
    and the years approach when you will say,
    “I find no pleasure in them”—
 before the sun and the light
    and the moon and the stars grow dark,
    and the clouds return after the rain;
 when the keepers of the house tremble,
    and the strong men stoop,
when the grinders cease because they are few,
    and those looking through the windows grow dim;
 when the doors to the street are closed
    and the sound of grinding fades;
when people rise up at the sound of birds,
    but all their songs grow faint;
 when people are afraid of heights
    and of dangers in the streets;
when the almond tree blossoms
    and the grasshopper drags itself along
    and desire no longer is stirred.
Then people go to their eternal home
    and mourners go about the streets.

 Remember him—before the silver cord is severed,
    and the golden bowl is broken;
before the pitcher is shattered at the spring,
    and the wheel broken at the well,
 and the dust returns to the ground it came from,
    and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher.
    “Everything is meaningless!”

Now all has been heard;
    here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
    for this is the duty of all mankind.
For God will bring every deed into judgment,
    including every hidden thing,
    whether it is good or evil.

That night when the world rested in deep slumber,

My mind played tricks within me in numbers.

Day and date I have passed to the oblivion now

But the consequence demanded my immediate bow.

Loneliness, abandonment, hurt, hatred, low esteem had taken deep roots;

Hours of weeping and lamentation were its flourishing fruits!

Darkness had shrouded my vision and shut the doors of hope

Giving me nothing but tears to mope.

The pain within, I could no longer take

Nothing could console my heartache.

I felt like a complete colossal failure in life

Giving another chance appeared a vain strive

I therefore wanted to end it once and for all

But my plans were disrupted with a phone call

An acquaintance offered a listening ear

I spitted my frustrations for her to hear,

Then said she with a voice so calm

“Do yourself no harm!”

“The One who created you knows you by name

He can’t see you go this lame!

He will never leave you all alone

Acknowledge the love that He has always shown

Fearfully and wonderfully have you been made,

To give you life , His  He had laid

You are precious to Him you now must know

Wherever He will lead you, you must go

Give all your burdens unto Him

And enjoy His love, happiness and blessings to the brim!”

Almost two years back, when I was in my first year in college, away from home for first time in life. I was having a tough time without any mental support or a friend to share my struggles with. My grades were going down and I was feeling like a complete failure in life. Feelings of loneliness, rejection, failure and pain had overwhelmed me to the point that I was planning to give up my life. One of my friends called me up and prayed for me over the phone. I felt God talking to me inter personally and saying to ‘caste all my cares and worries upon Him’ It gave me a new strength, a new hope to rise up and face challenges no matter how GIANT they be. I have found my hope in Christ alone. Even today the difficulties that I face, God gives me the courage to move on and face them. I am eternally thankful to God! I hope you find your hope in Him too.

“We say that slavery has vanished from European civilization, but this is not true. Slavery still exists but now it applies only to women and its name is prostitution.” – Victor Hugo

It gave me immense pain when I was writing this down. When I was doing my personal study on the subject, ‘Abduction and Prostitution’ I was disturbed the entire day imagining the condition of the victims. The worst part, I can only sympathize with them not knowing the actual pain, and the tremendous torment they have to go through. One can never relate to the actual feelings unless one has gone through it! Imagine the uncountable cries that are either suppressed with strength or pretended to be unheard. Imagine the state where ones greatest asset (the body) is abused as an object of pleasure by others, out of their control, will or interest.  Imagine the endless mourning and lamenting of souls which does not ‘dare’ to expect any help in return. Imagine the state of minds where a normal decent life is just a far-fetched dream.  How grievous!

Burdened to note this down- there are 42 million prostitutes all around the world and up to 10 million are child prostitutes. Sex slavery is worst and highest in Asian countries. It is much popular among the young innocent girls who are abducted and forced into this trade of body at the expense of humanity. Young and old men prefer young and new girls. Today there is existence of kid porn where children and not adults are chosen for sexual exploitation. Seeing them dress up like older women in dark shades of cosmetics is a heartbreaking sight. But do these innocent girls have a choice? Girls who try to escape are beaten mercilessly with belt, sticks and iron rods. And hence the groveler is taken full advantage of.

No women in this world would ever choose this work of crud by her free will. She is either compelled by situations or entangled by wrong companies. Once trapped, it’s difficult to come out of this dark world. Darkness binds them completely, screening any trace of light that may try to enter. Chains of anguish, self-pity, abomination then binds her tightly in a never breaking manner.

I have no more strength to describe it any further. I am digressed. But I want to put up a question to my readers, “what are we doing about this issue?” Merely reading this article and commiserating isn’t going to help! Even we learned people don’t play our parts properly. We are busy living selfishly and ignoring the hands which are crushed even before they can ask for help. We accept this gloomy side of the society as if it were one of the levels of some inter-connected food chain, essential for the balance of communities. And since the fear of protest has always dominated us, we have a mega word for this today – CORRUPTION. I believe tolerating the wrong things is an equal crime. Through the generations, these corrupt practices have propagated and augmented, abandoning the victims of the true happiness which they deserve. We need to fight back! Even though our efforts may seem like taking out a bucket of water from the ocean, yet if the numbers of buckets are increased there will definitely be a remarkable change.

If you are aware of anyone, anywhere close to this realm of filthiness, play you part, make them aware, and put up a rebellious countenance! Let’s hope that our baby steps would one day sum up to make this world a better place.

“Precious mummy,

Thank you for your unconditional love and care for me from the time when I was in your womb. Thank you for enduring all the pain I gave you, yet holding on to them as if they are your most precious jewel. Thank you for the uncountable sacrifices you made without a word of complaint. When you were down with fever, you chose to work with the meager strength that you had, just to keep us healthy. Through the hard times, you didn’t give up!

Thank you for standing up for me in my hard times, for protecting me like a guardian angel, for running this race of life along with me and picking me up whenever I surrendered before the finish line. Thank you for the wonderful knowledge you bestowed upon me. You taught me to take all my problems to the One Above before taking them to the mortals. You taught me to have Faith – a faith that conquers all fear. You taught me there is more joy in giving than in receiving. You have helped me learn my values for life!

My Mom & Me

Thank you for everything, dear mummy. I may never have thanked you before because it is in the blood of man to take certain people and things for granted. But I want to thank you with everything I have and with all that I am today. You are the greatest blessing God can give to a child! You are my tranquility and my turmoil and everything in between! You’re my world!  You‘re my mummy!”

 We are so busy running this race of life that we often forget who actually got us here. We thank everyone who comes in our path but become oblivious to show our gratitude to the one who helped us begin this journey. As I have mentioned earlier that it is in the blood of man to take things for granted. What if we become the victims of ingratitude? How would that make us feel? Miserable obviously! An effort which is unappreciated suffers a silent torturous death.

So let us break free of this unpleasing attitude which binds us from a humble confession of ‘thank you’. No, attitude is not cool, gratitude is! Thank people whenever you can and let it not just be in words but in actions as well. Gratitude is cool! Gratitude is amazing! Gratitude can save relationships!

We live in a fair instant world where everything is easily accessible, may it be a letter from a friend or the hidden agenda of plotters. Media has filled those long gaps with its ‘sovereign’ rule all over the world. It has acted as an unstoppable boon to communicate the thoughts of common man to the higher authorities and vice versa. But with all the perks it has brought, there are some inevitable curses it hasn’t failed to bestow upon us!

In this magically fast world, the kids have become smarter than their elders. They know of things and stuff which they aren’t supposed to know at that tender age. They are growing up in a world where vulgarity is the norm of the broad minders- the classy ones, and the poor innocent ones are mocked for being way too timid. Babies these days are literally born with an account in social media. The danger arises when the kid starts handling the account at a pre-age and learns of things beyond what his mentality can take. He grows up with that and unknowingly, the actions practiced in the dark become completely normal for him which if I were to describe religiously, I would call it ‘sin’.

Fake has become the new trend. People are heading towards it not necessarily in their conscious mind because the media has made it appear more like the ‘basic component’ of surviving in this present world. Youth compete to look better and they do so with the help of various editing apps which conceals their authentic appearance. We look up to the far stretched wings of media as our ‘godmother’ and it is leading us to the path of ultimate destruction.

Movies, TV shows inspire people more than anything. No matter whatever the theme be, messages of jealousy, anger, fight, quarrel, hatred and so on are transmitted subtly and displayed in a manner where it isn’t awe-inspiring as in cinemas, rather emptying the world of its peace and harmony. The media is actually breeding a generation of inhumane.

Time would be short if I were to describe it all one by one. But apart from all these, I believe the world would be restored to its former glory of authenticity and peace if the media would fold its wings in certain areas. And of course, until that problem is fixed, we should be careful to choose what we imbibe from the media!

“He isn’t a man if he does not commit any mistakes.” We all do and we develop ourselves from them.

I am reminded of my school days five years back. It was a bright winter morning. The school bell had rung and all the students assembled and lined up according to their classes as per the rule. The morning assembly was conducted by the students which included the school prayer, national anthem and the national pledge. This was followed by the news headlines and finally concluded with a pleasant thought.

That extraordinary morning, I was allotted for the thought reading. In my mind of fantasy I had foreseen the response of my audience to my reading, which was a huge applause. The confidence and excitement dominated my nervousness beyond measure such that I found it futile to rehearse. Rightly had someone said, ‘anything beyond measure is dangerous’. With that blind courage I went in front of the mike and began, “Good morning everyone……………..”, and politely ended with a thank you. But to my surprise everyone stood still as if something unusual had occurred. Their response perplexed me.

After the assembly, all students went to their respective classes. When I reached my class I asked two of my closest friends how my reading was. They looked at each other and then one of them said, “Where is the piece of paper in which the thought is written?” I took it out of my pocket and showed it to them. She read it out, ‘smile is the curve which sets everything straight’. She paused and continued, “you read ‘ honesty is the curve which sets everything straight’”.  That hit me like an arrow and brought me back to my senses out of my world of fantasy .I was dumbstruck for a moment. I was so firm not to rehearse that my mind had merged two different thoughts; the first one and ‘honesty is the best policy’ creating a mess and making complete fool of myself in front of the entire school including the teachers and principal. I felt like a complete idiot at that moment. My entire day was filled with embarrassment.

That night when I was on my bed, calm and quiet I made a vow that never will I be blindly confident on myself, no matter if it is for a thought of two lines or for a speech of 50. Over confidence can ruin it all!
