Interference Theory“, the theory of the Reasons for Forgetting explains, – “some memories compete and interfere with other memories. When information is very similar to other information that was previously stored in memory, interference is more likely to occur.”

Previously, we never used to have organizers or auto-reminder-alarms yet we were accomplishing things without forgetting but today we struggle to remember things even we have so many things to remind us. Why does that happen? It is because we have more very similar information in today’s world to interfere with the memories we have previously. Thus, we tend to forget more these days.

I am happy that whether we understand the background or not, we celebrate something called Valentine’s Day by expressing love for our loved ones. These special days are like auto-reminders in our phones, which reminds us to love otherwise we get interfered with so many other similar information in our mind that we forget the original call of our heart – to love.

There are many marriages still go on and on despite many discouragements and adversities… The reason is, the spouses haven’t forgotten the original call of their heart – to love.

The little innocent kids get back to each other’s arms even after a big fight between their counterparts, accusing each other big time. How could they manage to do so? They forget their fights being overshadowed by the call of their hearts – to love.

I have seen big disputes in my own extended families previously. But when there’s a death or sickness in one’s family, all come together to console, comfort and be with each other forgetting the differences between them. They get prompted by the original call of heart – to love.

Have you ever observed? In our country, we have many different states, different languages, different people groups. We have much difference of opinions between different political parties and leaders. But when we are attacked by a natural calamity or by an enemy country we all come together as one unit remembering that original call – to love.

It is God who wants us to love one another – “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

How can we then forget that original call, a call to love…!!!

Whether we like the flavour of Valentine’s day or not… whether we want to celebrate it or not… whether we want to buy gifts or we don’t… Let’s take it as a reminder of the original call of God in our hearts… nothing but to love.

In closing, I want to quote one scripture portion from the Bible, which always attracts my attention:

Therefore,… clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Now according to the above passage if we have the great virtues like compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, bearing with each other and forgiving one another yet, we don’t have the virtue of love then we are only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal that hurt ears a lot with their noises.

Friends! Today, when the love-organizer reminds us of the call of our heart – to love, by putting on the clothing of love, then don’t keep snoozing the alarm or shutting it down but accomplish the task right away…

Stay blessed!
