Why are we born into this world? Why are we brought up? Why do we receive education? Why do we conform as civilized beings in the society? It is because somewhere deep inside we have undertaken a quest. Whatever work we are called for, whatever decisions we take, whatever we do expresses our search for our identity. This in turn leads us to a bigger quest for the search for truth that sets us free. Honesty is a very simple word taught to us from the day we begin to comprehend our environment but it gradually starts to lose its importance as we get personal with our environment.
The very first time we lose it happens to be due to the fear of punishment at home. This makes way for another instance where we try to peek into our classmate’s copy during examination. Bit by bit it is lost when we try to put up a show of ourselves trying to fit into the world from where ideals, morals, ethics have been eliminated. We don’t feel like standing out for integrity. All we want to do is blend in. Why don’t we feel like standing out friends?
Standing out for integrity involves facing the dishonest wicked world. Standing out for truth involves taking up a challenge that seems to be impossible. Standing up for honesty means the world not accepting you. It means to bear the pangs of loneliness when you have to prove the cause you are standing up for. Having integrity of heart does not mean lying down on a bed of roses. It means coming to terms with the conflict that goes inside your mind. It calls for a struggle that tears you down. There are times when I feel these too. I have seen people in the professional sphere engaging into terrible politics, stripping them off integrity and twisting their own words and that of their colleagues to get to the top and lying to make an impression.
What initiative can you take if you are subjected to these circumstances? Whatever be it my friends, there is one thing that you can remember. Dishonesty keeps us incomplete whereas integrity is the state of being whole, entire or undiminished. The scripture says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will”. Renew your mind even if the process requires you to make confession whether you can afford it or not; refusing unmerited praise; looking painful truth in the face.
